It was sometime since I tried to install Skype in Ubuntu. At my workstation I had no problems at all, by following the instructions in the following page http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Karmic#Skype
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs lib32asound2 libqt4-core libqt4-gui
* Then download and install the current Skype .deb package from the Skype website:
wget -O skype_ubuntu-current_amd64.deb http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-beta-ubuntu-64
sudo dpkg -i skype-ubuntu-current_amd64.deb
I will have to try now in the laptop and the netbook to see if they give me any trouble...

In my laptop there was no problem either. Just needed to select the right microphone input, and all was well.
But in the netbook I didn't manage to get the microphone working (though it records OK with the Sound Recorder...). Need to investigate a bit further...
Solution for the netbook (Acer Aspire 1810T): I found (thanks tohttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/Aspire1810TZ/Karmic) that by starting Skype as
/bin/sh -c "PULSE_SERVER=127.0.0.1 /usr/bin/skype" &
then all is OK. I just put that in a script in /usr/local/bin/skype, changed the properties for skype icon in the menu, and voilĂ ... Skype in the netbook is working fine!
